Introduction to the Patriot Wildfire 120GB Solid State Drive

Continuing with our tour of SATA III solid state drives we will we taking a look at a Patriot offering. Patriot currently offers two solid state drives that run on the SATA III bus, the Pyro and their top model Wildfire, both of which use one of the new SandForce controllers. Today's review will be focusing on the popular Wildfire.

Like many of the other drives we have tested, the Wildfire is also pushing the read and write times significantly above the 500MB/s mark. In order to do this the Wildfire has taken advantage of the SandForce SF-2281 processor, as well as some pretty fast Toshiba NAND memory. The Wildfire is currently on the market in three different sizes which would be 120GB, 240GB and 480GB. We've been sent the 120GB model so follow along as we see just how raging this Wildfire is.

Patriot’s take on the Wildfire SSD

Experience enterprise-class performance in your personal PC with the Patriot Wildfire series SSD powered by the latest SandForce® SF-2200 processor. A SATA III 6.0 GB/s connection interface enables the Patriot Wildfire series to achieve maximum performance without any bottlenecks while maintaining backwards compatibility with existing SATA II 3.0 Gb/s and SATA I 1.5 Gb/s interfaces. The versatile 2.5-inch form factor enables the Patriot Wildfire series to easily upgrade any desktop or notebook systems. An included 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch mounting bracket ensures desktop users can quickly slip a Patriot Wildfire series into your system for added installation flexibility.
