AMD has lead in discrete graphics for notebooks

"Mercury Research has just released its "PC Graphics Market Share Update" report for the third quarter of 2010 and for the second consecutive quarter, AMD is the market share leader in discrete graphics, according to AMD.

AMD continues to make inroads in the notebook discrete market, capturing an additional 5.6 share points and hitting 61.9% share in notebook discrete graphics. Outpacing its competitor yet again in this key market, the result demonstrates the strength of AMD's DirectX 11-capable notebook discrete product stack, the company noted.

"AMD is the clear leader in DirectX 11 graphics technology with more than 25 million DirectX 11-capable units shipped to date, and the Mercury Research results are indicative of our continued focus on delivering compelling graphics technology to both notebook and desktop markets," said Matt Skynner, corporate vice president and general manager, GPU Division, AMD. "With the successful launch of the award winning AMD Radeon HD 6800 series graphics cards, shipping in volume on the day of launch, AMD is in a very strong position moving into the last quarter of 2010."
