Closer look at the Kingston HyperX 2000MHz

Chances are you have had some Kingston Hyper X modules in at least one of your rigs in your lifetime. For some time now we have seen Kingston use the heat spreaders that are residing on the modules that we are testing today. But before we go on Kingston had upgraded the HyperX lineup with a new set of heat spreaders that sports a new towering design similar to that of the Corsair Dominators. The heat spreaders we are looking at today have a lower profile that will allow the attaching of larger wide spreader CPU coolers to fit without problems. The spreaders are aluminum and blue and silver in color and held together with aluminum clips.

These HyperX modules have what many of us are looking for in a kit that is meant for the i7 and that is the XMP profile feature. This feature allows for easy configuring of the timings and speed of the kit while adjusting the CPU to the rightful settings. In the case of the Hyper of the these sticks there are two XMP profiles worth stating. The first is at 1866MHz at 9-9-9 and the second is 2000MHz at the same timings. If you motherboard is capable of supporting the latter of the two settings why look at the first. And that is what we did. All testing of this kit is based on the 2000MHz setting as our Gigabyte X58 UD did.

Due to the fact that these modules are solely meant for the X58 chipset they most operate at the Intel specifications for this chipset. Which is 1.65 and no more as anything more could result in a damage memory controller on the CPU. This would mean that you have a new paper weight as Intel is not going to warranty the CPU due to more abiding by their wishes.
