Introduction to the Thermaltake BlacX 5G HDD Dock
The data that is stored on our hard drive is very important to us. I am sure you have plenty of hard drives sitting around that once in a while you will have to connect it up to your PC to get that needed data off. One method to accomplish that is something everyone has access to and that is to remove the side panel, find an extra SATA cable and throw your nice cable-routing job into disarray just to gain access to a power connectors.
I am sure a few of you may have a hard drive enclosure lying around, but honestly who really wants to go through the assembly steps of an enclosure in order to insert a hard drive so you retrieve just a little bit of data. This process just takes too long to accomplish.
One of the best routes that we have come across to get recover data from an old hard drive is to use a hard drive dock. We have reviewed several of these over the years and we loved them from the beginning, many of them being really similar in usage and styling for that matter. So, why are we reviewing another one here today? What can it really offer that the ones we have reviewed before do not have?
The new BlacX 5G from Thermaltake looks pretty much like all their other hard drive docks, so not too much different from the others, but it does offer one thing: USB3.0. With the performance that SuperSpeed can deliver there is no better way to get data from one location to another, but at $50 is it really worth the extra premium you have to fork out to have it on your desktop? We will see.
