Vantec NexStar SuperSpeed SATA to USB 3.0 Adapter

E-mail Print
vantec usb 3 adpaterToday, on the bench we have Vantec’s latest adapter. This new adapter allows the end-user to interface an internal hard drive to your computer using the newer and faster USB 3.0. for the average who may not work on computers much may elect to go the route of the enclosure but the geek/IT/system builder out there time is money and we don’t want to spend extra time putting together an enclosure. A simple adapter like this one will save you time and money.

Vantec NexStar CX SuperSpeed Edition HDD Enclosure

E-mail Print
vantec nexstar cx superspeedOne of the leaders today in HDD enclosure is Vantec. Producing enclosures for laptop drive and desktop, Vantec can be seen everywhere. Vantec was nice enough to recently send over their new NexStar CX model. Unlike the NexStar 3 we reviewed a few months ago, the CX has a simpler look. But it still offers the reliability and quality but not the shiny exterior of the NexStar 3. But one thing they do share is performance based on the new SuperSpeed technology.

Today, we get to take a look at a new USB 3.0 peripheral from another great company, the Kingwin DM-2535U3 hard drive dock or the Dock Master. I personally am a big fan of the dock over the enclosure as they are easier to manage. There is no assemblage. Simply insert drive and format. Now I get to do this with a faster dock than my present Thermaltake BlacX Duet.

Eagletech ET-CSMDSU2-BK Dual Bay SATA to USB EnclosureToday, we get the chance to examine their latest hard drive in the Eagletech ET-CSMDSU2-BK. The new enclosure works pretty much the same as the JBOD enclosure in the earlier part of this introduction but sports a better and more functional design. But what we like most about it is that it is completely tool-less. No needs for tools or long assembly processes. Just insert your two drives of any size but needs to be SATA and connect it to any open USB 2.0 port. Done and finish. Time to take a closer look at the new JBOD enclosure from Eagletech.

Vantec NexStar 3 SuperSpeed USB 3.0 EnclosureVantec being the leader in external enclosures has offered to allow us a first hand look at their new enclosure from the NexStar line entitled SuperSpeed. The NexStar enclosure was one the first to offer great looks without comprising performance. Characterisics to the box has always been the shiny exterior layer, upright stance and the growing blue Vantec logo. But is the USB 3.0 hype worth it? We hope after this review we will have answered this question.

Silverstone ds221So my most reasonable option would be to build my on drive enclosure. This way I can pick whatever enclosure style I like. And I can load the enclosure with any drive I want. Yeah....I like this option better. Silverstone has a new enclosure that will help me accomplish my goal. The new DS221 dual 2.5" drive enclosure is a stylish unit that can house two laptop size drives that can be insert without having to tear apart the box. And if that doesn't get you excitement level up how does it support for RAID 0, 1 and even JBOD.

Charles Darwin's ecological experiment on Ascension isle

Thursday, 02 September 2010 10:24 Posted By Clinton

A lonely island in the middle of the South Atlantic conceals Charles Darwin's best-kept secret.

Two hundred years ago, Ascension Island was a barren volcanic edifice.

Today, its peaks are covered by lush tropical "cloud forest".

What happened in the interim is the amazing story of how the architect of evolution, Kew Gardens and the Royal Navy conspired to build a fully functioning, but totally artificial ecosystem.

Thomas Edison's plot to hijack the movie industry

Thursday, 02 September 2010 10:19 Posted By Clinton

It was a dark and stormy night on December 18, 1908. Okay—maybe it wasn't so dark and stormy. But it should have been, because that was the night Thomas Edison tried to hijack the motion picture industry.

"With his beetle brows, long wispy hair, and beatific look, Edison might have seemed the addled inventor," writes the historian Neil Gabler, "but he was a shrewd businessman and a fearsome adversary who was never loath to take credit for any invention, whether he was responsible or not."

Plan for nationwide free wireless broadband finally shot down

Thursday, 02 September 2010 10:18 Posted By Clinton
For four years the Federal Communications Commission tossed the idea  around like a beach ball: a coast-to-coast free wireless service across the low end of the 2GHz "AWS-3" band. The service would pay for itself via advertisements and by selling commercial access to various portions of the license area. The company that proposed the plan, M2Z Networks, would commit to building out the project in a decade, and pay five percent of its annual revenue to the United States Treasury.
